How do leopard geckos behave?

14 October 2009 140 views No Comment

Although most geckos are known for their aggression and difficulty in establishing a good relationship with humans, leopard geckos are quite friendly.  Adults can be handled easily.  Young leopard geckos have a more defensive behavior and produce strange noises — an innate reaction to danger — but the leopard gecko bite is harmless.

In the first days of captivity, it is important to have patience while the gecko adapts to its new owner.  For example when feeding, handle your pet  so that the gecko gets used to your touch and begins to feel comfortable in your hands.

Geckos are mostly nocturnal in their habits.  They stay safely in the shelter during the day, coming out at night to seek prey.  Observe them as they hunt: they stretch their legs and separate their bodies from the ground as they walk, making for a peculiar motion.  Their curious eyes become alive and alert with interest when they sight their prey.
